Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: RPM Cruise Range for Old Yam

I have my 1985 90hp 3cyl Yammie running great right now. I generally like to cruise around at 4000 to 4200 RPM. My manual says that the cruise range for that motor is 4500 to 5500. I would like to run it harder but I'm afraid to blow it up. A friend of mine explained that these old 2 stroke motors were designed to run at max cruise so pushing it isn't a big deal. Any suggestions?

I have a 1995 90hp Yamaha on a flats boat. I typically run at 4400rpm.

The boat is a 20' tunnel hull boat with fixed trim tabs, fiberglass cavitation plate and CMC jack plate....runs in six inches of water.
