Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 70hp Yamaha Tilt Dead

I have a '96 70hp 2 stroke. Nice motor on my 15' classic. Anyways, I just got it to my pier, tied up the boat and raised to tilt about 3/4 until it died. I just got the motor 1 week ago and don't have a owner's manual yet. Does anyone know where the relive valve is located so that I can lower it in the am and go fishing? I checked a fuse by the solenoid, it was good. I have no clue why it has stopped functioning, up or down. The motor starts.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Crash,

You will need to share the motor type and model... Yamie, merc, evinrude etc... But it sounds like a solenoid or switch issue, and yes the relief screw will help... Does it have a switch on the engine?

looking at the motor from inside the boat look on the right side. look for a large flat screw head that you can use a flat head to turn. I thin it is stamped tilt in the casting around the screw.

Yamaha 70 70TLRU

There is a large flat screw that uses a flat head screw driver. I saw it last night but didn't know for sure if that was the relief valve. I'll most likely pull it out Sunday afternoon and take it to the guy that rebuilt it. It has a one year warranty on it.

Thanks guys!

Bake,

Thanks for the help. I need to buy or find a owners manual for my outboard. Since the water temp here is about 55F here and it was dark last night, that made it kinda tough to find the release valve.

Thanks again!

I'm just gonna get the whole manual Jon. While the motor is under warranty, and I did manage to get the tilt down, one day I won't have the luxury of having you guys to bail me out. I'll look on ebay or pirate it off of the internet.

Thanks,
