I have a 1985 18 Outrage. This is my first Whaler.

I see the hull plug on the stern of the boat, but I also see two drain plugs on either side of outboard. They appear to be below the water line. When I dropped the boat in, the stern filled with water, maybe a few inches. Then, obviously, once I started moving, the boat drained, i.e. self draining hull.

Is it normal for there to always be water in the stern of the boat (while docked)? It seems odd that the battery and oil tank is always sitting in about an inch or two of water.

Any advice or other threads on this subject that I may have missed?

I also own a 1985 Outrage 18'.

I get very little to no water in the splashwell at dock.
It of course depends on wind and chop conditions.

What motor do you have?
I have a 1985 Evinrude 150hp and an Evinrude 8hp on the transom.
I have one battery and two oilers in the splashwell.

I leave my sump drain plug in at all times when using the boat.

It may seem odd at first, but this is one feature (self-draining) of a Boston Whaler.

Many owners run their boats with the two drains in the splashwell (just below the engine) open and the main bilge drain plugged with a bilge pump.

i have a 150 hp yamaha, 1 battery, and 1 oil tank......it just doesnt seems right to always have water back there....when its dead calm, no wind and no chop there would be 2 inches of water....maybe ill post a picture...

Hi, I have a '90 Outrage 19, same hull basicly, and a 150 hp e-tec with one battery and the 1.5 gal. oil tank and the two drains are right at the waterline, with no water in the splashwell. Also have the full stern seat.

hmmm...I wonder if I have someother problem...I too have a full stern seat, also have a full tank of gas, but im sure that shouldnt matter...if my two drain plugs are not plugged, water will gush right in and fill the splashwell with about 2 inches of water...

Another question for you...Does your stern seat remove easily...Ive had the hardest time trying to bet mine out..should it be a struggle or am I doing something wrong here too?....

you may have some water in the foam of your boat,the foam is sandwiched between the inside and outside shell,this would weigh the boat down into the water more and cause the thru hull drains to sit below the waterline

I suppose that could be.....Is there a fix for that, or is it something I just have to live with...The prior owner said something about drilling a whole in the bottom to drain out any excess water that may have accumulated over the years...That may be it cuz she sure seems to sit pretty low in the water...this is my first summer with her, so i have no prior years to compare it too..Thanks for the info.

RYAN HI, I've only had it out once, last year when I had to replace the wood under the tank hatch. Was no problem to remove. Eight screws in the hatch edges where the feet are and then the six, three on each side, screws/ machine screws for the back brace. The seat weighs approx. 45 lbs.

What size is your sump drain plug on the 18'? I need to buy one.

1 inch sump drain plug along with the bow locker.

The other two out the transom are 1 1/4 inch but I don't put plugs in those.
