I have a 1971 13ft whaler. How do I know if it is a sport or a standard? Thanks

As far as I know a standard has no steering wheel.

Thats what I was thinking. Thank you for clarifying. I have also been searching to try and find out some of the motors that people with the same model have been able to fit, more importantly max weight? I currently have a 25 HP johnson 2stroke and it moves along find with two, 200 men in it. I was curious how much more HP i could realistically add?

The Sport model with remote steering has a max hp rating of 40 hp.
You might take a look at our Quick Engine Reference Guide for 13' models in our articles section under "Current Engine Choices".

Thank you for the information. I also notice the "Speed Question" thread. 40MPH seems pretty quick!
Also, and forgive me if this is repetitive, where is a good place to find replacement rubber for the bumper guard? Good websites?

You can get a new rub rail from any of your trusted local dealers. Many members like to use Twin Cities Marine for their prompt and excellent service and competitive prices. (I purchased my new rub rail from Twin Cities as a matter of fact, after one of my local dealers fumbled with the order.)

Great. My apoligies for asking repetitive questions. I have been doing my best in searching so as not to seem like the typical newbie. Thanks again.
A little story behind my boat:
My grandfather purchased it New. It is a 1971 13ft Standard # 2A6619. He used it every year until the summer of 2007 up at Clearwater Lake, 100 Miles north of Kamloops, BC. We are from Blaine, WA.
He and I enjoyed the boat a lot together up at the lake for around 3 yrs before his passing. He left the boat to me and I thought he would enjoy it a lot if I restored it till its original beauty and kept using it till I am an old man.
Currently I am 24 yrs old, I live in Scottsdale, AZ and the boat is still in Blaine, WA at a friends house, we are slowly beginning to research what it is going to take to get it to look new again. This website has been so far tremendously helpfull in the last 3 days since I discovered it. It will be a slow project in the making as I fly up only a few times a year. I will keep pictures posted along the way with a few going up tonight. Thanks again for the help everyone!

That is a cool story Alex, I am about your age (25) and have had mine for a couple years now. I plan on passing this one down to my kids and hopefully they will to theirs. That is the great thing about these boats. With some care they will look just as good for our next generation.

I had just purchased a 1996 Standard Boston Whaler. The standard was also available with or without the console. Mine is a 15 and it will take a 75 hp may. You can call Boston Whaler and give them you hull number and they will tell you what model you have. Mine was sold to me as a sport, Come to find out after calling Boston Whaler they did not make a sport in a 15ft in 1996
Here is the number and person I spoke with. He was very helpful and informative
