My 1989 Montauk single lever remote throttle and shift control is starting to fall apart, leaking voltage, and its time for a replacement top-mounted single lever control. The motor is a newer 2002 90HP Johnson.
Is it possibe to pick up a 1989 vintage replacement control exactly same as what I have? ...or am I better off replacing with a newer BRV lever for the 2002 Johnson?
Is the correct part # for the remote control 0176371 ??. Is it difficult to change out the control and set it up properly?
Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Boston Whaler never made engine controls. There was an option for purchasing the Morse controls back in the earlier days.
Which brand of controls do you have?
OMC?
If you have OMC, then it most likely looks like the first photo in this link.

Your engine does have System Check, so yes, the 176371 would be the correct controller for you if you already have the external key switch and safety lanyard. Yes, you can still buy these from your BRP dealer or eBay.
I am attaching a photo of the 176371 without key switch and lanyard.

Joe - Thanks for the feedback. I'll look under the cover to double check but the unit in the photo provided looks like the right one. The key/safety lanyard are mounted on the center console. Any tricks to replacing it?

These are fairly simple to replace.
Basically plug and play with the exception of the throttle and shift cable.
Take a couple of screws out to remove the cables and put the new unit in its place.
No adjustments necessary on this end except for maybe throttle tension so the throttle lever will stay in place when you let go.
Instructions are included with a new unit.
