Hello all, Newbie here just coming in to pick up as much information as possible. Just bought my first real boat, 88 Montauk 17'. I'm stoked. I haven't gotten it in the water yet, its in the shop getting a full tune up, the boat sat for almost 10 years, so I want to make sure I'm not going to get stuck out on the ocean.

On to the real questions, I need a new bait tank and I'm thinking of placing it in the stern of the boat. What kind of bait tanks do you guys prefer and what size. I think a half scoop of bait should hold me for the day, if that helps.

On the the second real question, I'm looking for the size of cooler that sits in the bow of the boat. Can someone tell me the size of cooler that will fit comfortably? Where do I find these types of coolers. I would like to get one with a cushion so it can double as a seat. I looked at several igloos, but they didn't have the rivets to attach cushions. Do you have to put the rivets in the coolers yourself? Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry no pics yet of the boat. Bought the boat, took it to the shop. I'll take pics when I get it back from its tune up and hopefully maiden voyage through Newport Harbor.

First congrats of the purchase and welcome to teh board.

As for the bait tank I would have no idea.

As for the coolers we were able to fit a 96 quart coller in front of the console. And the cushion we had was custom made because we wanted it to match all the others. You can pick up these marine coolers at any west marine or other boat store. The costcos and sams clubs around here sell them as well for atleast 50% less than west marine so check there first. Also you can purchase white cushions for these coolers at west marine and yes you will have to install the snaps yourself. The last things is you will need to rivet hooks to the sides of the cooler for the bungee cord to hold the cooler to the chocks.

psterling,

You might want to look at all the parts photos on this site. Here is the photo of the 94qt Igloo Marine cooler that you are seeking.

The cooler comes with 4 snaps already installed if you use the Igloo cushion.
If you want a cushion that matches the original interior, then you will want to order one from Hall's Nautical. A photo of that cushion is also on this site under OEM Parts Photos here:

You will get the extra snaps needed when you purchase this cushion, they are easy to install.
You drill a small hole where the snap is to be placed and then screw in the snap stud.
