Does anyone know where I might find some new bushings for the origional cable steering shaft? I'm talking about the plastic (nylon?) bushings that go around the bronze shaft that holds the drum and wheel. Mine are a busted. I would prefer to keep the origional cable steering system because the origional outboard (69 Johnson 40 hp) does not have a tilt tube. I was going to repower but the motor has compression, spark, good lower end, so I figure why give it a shot. These darn bushings seem to be the weak link in my plan.
Assuming I can find new bushings, why are some systems set with 5 pullies and 2 springs, while others have 3 pullies and 1 spring?
Thanks!

Ryan, have you found any place to get replacement bushings?I just took apart the steering system on my son's whaler and his are all disintergrated.

The original whaler set-up was with 3 pullies and one spring on the starboard side.
