As I'm refitting-conditioning my 69 sakonnet I'm trying to decide between using a trolling motor or installing Oar locks to aid when fishing...

first you have to understand that we would use either primarily for positioning as we fish along the shore-line in ontario lakes...usually with the wind...

thinking of placing the locks near the center console between the railings. and since I'm cutting into the side now to install a tube for new wiring I could place a block of wood in the railing to screw the oar locks into.

Any thoughts on this?
thanks John

here is the oarlock link from Jamestown:

I see nothing wrong with installing the Oarlocks, but I think that you will find the method of stabilizing the boat while fishing to be a hassell. Would it not be easier to simply have a pole with a point on it to shove into the bottom and then loop a stern or bow line around it? A push pole which serves to move the boat around and to anchor it is what is used in this area for that type of fishing.

Tom, any chance you could show me a drawing or image of what you describe...I think I understand...kind of like a Venitian condola?

thanks, john
