Hey just got a 1980 whaler. 13ft. trying to figure out if its a sourpuss model because of the wrap around rails behind the back seat. is this another type of sport? or is it the sourpuss?

Can you post some photos? Set up a personal page so we can see what you have. Also look on this site under photo gallery on the left sidebar and click on Whaler Model Specs.

if it's a 1980, it's a sourpuss. The sourpuss is a name given to it based on what the bow looks like compared to the classics......pre 1972 or so.
EDIT- My bad, I got the term "Sourpuss" and "Smirkless" confused.....Opps. :P

thanks alot. i just thought the super sport had the different seating, with the storage behind bench seat and different console. but maybe not the 1980 model.

Sorry folks but no super sport here. What you have is a 1980 Sport with the optional wrap around rail w/ Mahogany backrest. The rail and backrest cost and additional $235 in 1980 when the boat was purchased. To be a Super Sport, you need to have the storage locker aft of the seat and they were not available until 1984/1985.
Nice condition on the boat. Do you have better photo's of the rear seat and the brackets whaler used to attach the backrest? it looks like they used the same boomerang type supports that are used on the older Eastport rear seat.
