I had sent Suzanne some photos of my Dauntless with the bow mount trolling motor and custom bow rails so that she could tell me what measurements they would need to make my cover. I received an email today saying that they couldn't make me a cover due to the bow rails being custom, they didn't have a cover that would fit!
I was under the impression that they were a 'custom' canvas maker?
Any helpful suggestions as to who might be able to 'make' me a cover. I cannot leave this boat outside in the elements without a cover.

In my limited research, a custom cover is for the exact model. Semi-custom is fitted to the boat within a certain measurement and a universal is based on ranges of length, height, beam measurements.

Mill's covers fit the specific whaler model to a T and are tight. No slack and little wiggle room. Some even say the full enclosure pieces can be too tight at first.

I can't see how they can design and cut a custom cover when you have custom rails and trolling motor. I think they will make a custom cover if they have the boat.

Of course, you are correct. I shouldn't expect to get something custom without them having the actual boat to use for measurements. I am on the hunt for a local 'quality' canvas maker her in the Bay Area.

For "Quality", make sure that the canvass maker uses at least "Sunbrella" material (I'm told there is even BETTER now), and look or ask for "Triple" stitching at the seems, also look for "Grey Hair" cause, these guy's are getting few and far between. It has been my observation that getting a canvass job is better in the "Off Season", as the canvass maker does not have to "Rush" with other orders.

I think I have found the shop to make my cover. I was referred to Stan Pleskunas to take care of some electrical work that I need to have done and he mentioned that he deals with a family owned shop in Moss Landing that is outstanding. Stan has a sterling reputation around here and I am going to trust his recommendation and have these fine folks make a cover for my new Dauntless.

Good "Craftsman" go by word of mouth, they never need to advertise, also always check with the "U.P.S" drivers, They seem to know "EVERYTHING" ! Ask, you'll see, they know where every business is located, and what they do !
