I am not sure about the engine height, at about 1 1/2 inches above the keel I was getting a "v" spray from the engine indicating I was too low, but then I was getting prop slippage on quick turns also. I guess with a jack plate you have to really trim in for turns.
I need to get a taller prop though, the old V4 was turning almost 6000 rpms :o

I have a 13x19 Michigan. It turned 5300 mounted in the blind holes. I am sure it is slipping causing the rpms to raise artificially, I cant say how much though. I think I will take LHG's advice and lower the engine for this weekend and then try and get a Laser prop in the 20" range or so and then raise her up. That Michigan prop didnt seem to like being raised up except at WOT

Wow, Nice work Bob. I am interested to now have that thing works out. Though I would need a Cherry Picker for the big old V6.

That V6 is only 100#'s more so I dont think it would be as bad as you think. The key is to keep the engine stable. Once it gets momentum in any direction you are screwed. Most of the time the straps weren't even bearing any weight
