the 1/2" x 7 5/8" stud appears to have a slight bend in it at both ends when i rrmoved it for replacement
replacing because it seemed to loosen up somewhat.
are these bends normal?
it appears so due to the contour of the hull and deck at the exits.

any help

I think I read another recent thread here that established some of them had a slight bend. What hull do you have?

Hi, I pulled mine when dismantling it all for rechroming. The stud was indeed bent slightly at both ends to accomadate the hull shape of my Montauk. As long as its not cracked don't sweat but make sure you align it as originally on refit or it will crack ... Just when you don't want it to>>>:o

its an '87 montauk
the bends do seem to make sense due to hull shape,
but they are not opposite each other (180* of each other).
they are lets say 150* of each other.
thats what is confusing me.
i am using a scrap piece of 1/2" steel rod for a template in fitting it up, of which i will mimmick onto the stainless rod, and its kind of forcing me to have this 150* opposite bends. it doesnt make much sense.
