I was the winning bidder for the 70 off ebay..$3400. Have it mounted and running after having to pull the vapor separator assembly due to no high pressure fuel. It seems the engines are run and drained of engine oil but not fuel...after sitting 10 years in a cradle the pump had stuck. I soaked it in a mixture of acetone and brake cleaner overnight and it broke loose. Now it runs but I am getting a code 31 which has something to due with the CTP switch. I dont have control cables connected yet and am running it using the lever with the cowling off. It idles down to a very low speed. Could the code 31 be from not having the cables connected or do I have another problem in the throttle body? I purchased the engine without warranty even though it is new. thanks

I don't know the codes. Hopefully someone else here can tell you or contact a Evinrude dealer and ask them.

Any update, did you get it running?

The engine is running great now..code 31 is engine overheat and was set because the impeller had gotten rigamortis from sitting for 10 years. Another factor was not enough water going into the muffs in my shop. I removed the small intake screen from the bottom side of the cavitation plate and found a 1/2" hole that leads to the water pump. I installed a cut off section of washing machine hose into this hole and supplied the engine with water thru the muffs and this hose. Now with a new impeller and lots of water supply, it really pees a stream and no code or lights. Installing the new impeller was alittle scary having never done this and the fact it is a new engine but it turned out to be simple.
