Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Cooler under RPS size?

I am sure this has been done. Does the 94qt cooler fit under the RPS. If not. Does addin the z-leg risers allow this to be done? If not, does a smaller cooler fit under there?

Eri -

A 94 qt will not fit under a standard RPS with the risers on the floor. Most setups I have seen include risers so the cooler is a decent size.

The Igloo 36 quart Marine cooler will fit under an RPS at its stock height (no risers) even while the cooler is sitting on teak chocks.

I suspect a modest 1-1/2" set of risers would allow the Igloo 48 quart cooler to fit.

With a jumbo six inches of riser, the RPS will accommodate the Igloo 72 quart cooler but beyond that, no amount of raising will allow a larger cooler to fit because of the width limitation.

Eri, you could also put a cooler in the splashwell -- I think

I carry a 72qt Igloo, with Halls cushion installed, under my RPS, which has to be raised 6" to accomplish. The cooler sits on a set of Montauk cooler cleats which hold it in place without the need for bungees, and keep the cooler from abrading the non-skid on the boat floor.

I could highly recommend this set-up. The cooler is handy for any number of purposes, including fish cooler, dry storage and use as a seat when pulled out.

In addition, I have design and built what I call a "fuel tank cradle", out of teak strips, which drops on to the cooler cleats, and which holds a pair of Tempo 13 gal fuel tanks, or a single 26, for when extra fuel capacity is needed.

Regarding the splashwell, an old style 86Qt cooler will fit there, with dry deck pads under it, provided the engine is on a jackplate which clears out the engine cables. The newer style Igloos will not fit, as they are too wide at the base.

Thanks all. I Probably dont want to raise more than an inch or so as i have the 18 Newport and the console is lower than the Outrage. I could always raise the console the same amount and take advantage of some storage under there.

fraser,

the coolers are standard Igloo Marine coolers. The cushions are from Halls, who is a site sponser.

...and the cooler hooks that attach to the sides of the coolers and hold the bungee cord are a Whaler part available from any Whaler dealer such as Twin Cities Marine.
