I've been looking at trolling motors forever and am getting closer. Do all of you that live in Florida and other areas in the coastals have saltwater trolling motors. It seems like I see alot of freshwater motors in pictures on this site from people that live in coastal areas.

I live on freshwater now, but intend to fish salt on occasion and may retire closer to salt in the Florida gulf areas. Maybe too much is made of the need for a salt water trolling motor. Alot of the bay areas are really fresh water flowage anyway, eh?

I don`t see the difference, maybe some "corrosion" resistant surfaces, thats all. Same as an outboard. Don`t leave salt sticking to the surface after your done with your boat for the day. Just wash it off with a hose and soapy water. No big deal. I`ve always boated in salt water, and never had corrosion problems. If your too lazy to wash the salt off and flush your outboard, you probably don`t care about corrosion, and a salt water trolling motor, isn`t going to relieve you of your responsibility.

I agree with Binkie.............Wash it down and you'll have no problems..........So many boaters falsely think that salt water is some kind of boat killer.

I've been using a fresh water model on my 13 for a few years in salt water. A washdown afterward is al I do and have had no problems at all.
