According to http://www.whalerparts.com/Diagrams/2007/Transducer/1526771.pdf. It looks like I can install a shoot thru transducer. Has anyone else used https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=836 on a 2007 Dauntless 180?

Thanks

Why would you want a in hull transducer. What's wrong with a transom mount transducer. I can't see what shooting sound thru the hull is any advantage.

A shoot thru will give me 2 advantages. No Rooster tail at all, and no chance of the transducer being hit or screwed up by the forklift and my rack storage. And why on earth if you can avoid it put another set of holes in the boat?

I have used shoot thru before and found them to be great. I don't need it to mark fish, I fly fish. I just need to know how deep the water is.

Can't do it

I just got this email from Chuck Bennett

"This is a solid area in the hull where you could install an actual thru hull (with fairing block) transducer. This area is about 2 1/2" thick.
If the boat has both the standard and optional livewell, the thru-hull fittings may cause disturbance and give an inaccurate reading.
Where this size boat is typically trailered, I'd recommend the transom mount."
