Restoring my 1982 13' sport and was hoping to get some recomendations on hose power for my boat. I want to be able to be able to get maximum performance out of the boat. Thanks in advance for any help since boat did not come with motor. Happy Holidays.

I think more important than HP is the weight on the 13. Especially with the new engines. They are ridiculously heavy in some HP ratings.
The best power to weight ratio is probably a used 40HP 2 stroke.
I have a couple friends that have 13's around here. One has a 50HP and one has 60HP. Both are 2 stroke Merc's. Those boats fly but sit a good 3 to 4 inches lower in the water than mine with an old 35HP.
Lots of older "new" 2 stroke motors out there.
Some things to consider.

Typically if you go with the 40hp for your 13', you won't be yearning for more power and wishing you had put a 40hp on it. With a 40hp bolted on, you'll be able to use your 13' to the best of it's capabilities. My 40hp Yami pushes my classic right along and I wouldn't go with anything less powerful.

I put a 40 Nissan injected 2 stroke on my 13 and couldn't be happier with the performance. It weighs 208 lbs. and comes with pt&t and a prop and cables included.

Thanks for all your help, looks like 40hp is the right motor. I didn't understand what RATED really meant, maximum or minimum?
