Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: Re-power 1986 Outrage 18

I am having a hard time deciding between the E-Tec 130 or the 150 for my classic 18' Outrage.

I pull kids in the tube and the occasional wake border, but high speed isn't a real concern since I boat on L.I. Sound and most days it's too choppy to run the boat wide open.

I do hit the max capacity number of 8 on a regular basis. So my question is, do I need the extra power? Or is the new E-Tec 130 going to be a good option for this old classic? It is a savings of about $1,500 but i don't want to make a decision that I will not be happy for years to come.

Thanks,

John

Spend the extra $1,500. You'll be very happy.

Fish -

Welcome to WC.

Given your tubing and having a group on the boat, I would definitely go with the 150.

I think knowing you have the power available with a heavy load is a good feeling and worth the 20 ponies.

From someone that put a 175HP on their classic, spend the $$ and get the 150. You will be glad for the extra power with 8 on board (btw the boat is only rated for 7) and you need to get home in a hurry.
