I was out this past friday and when I turned to get out of a cove. The fuel line split by the motor. I want to replace the whole line from the bulb to the motor. I would like to know how much is recomended and is there a difference from automotive hoses to marine. I have a 1986 17' Montauk with a 90hp Johnson.
Thanks.

You will need marine-rated fuel hose. It comes in different diameters. It also comes in pre-packaged lengths with primer bulbs and fittings already attached or cut to length.

My recommendation is to take the entire fuel line assembly with you to a good marine supply store. Buy 1' more hose than needed in the same diameter. Walk over and get a new primer bulb (correct size) while you are at it. Match the old engine side fitting to the new one.

See this article for rigging lengths:

Your lengths may vary slightly due to other equipment.

You can get good fuel lines at Wal mart....pretty inexpensively.

Get a OEM primer bulb. They don`t get stiff and crack as fast as some of the junk thats out there.

In that a fuel line is not something that you should have to replace very often, I agree with Binkie in getting an OEM and then you won't have to worry about it for a long time

OEM is definately the way to go. Had issues with the check valves not working and making priming difficult in 2 aftermarket bulbs. Done with those. And if you can fit the thicker A1 fuel line in the tunnel, it's the way to go. A little more expensive but worth it.
