I am looking for information on replacement of steering components for either original OEM steering wheel or a total replacement hydraulic system. This would be for unmodified 1966 16 foot Sakonnet.
It is my understanding that original replacement parts would be unavailable, thus replacement could be new steering wheel if necessary.
Ideas, parts and ordering information, or similar replacement info appreciated.
Thanks. Aurelais

If I understand your question, you are looking to replace your steering system. Your boat probably had the American Chain and Cable "Steermaster" system from new, and replacement parts are NLA. At my shop, we use the Teleflex systems in most cases, as they are cost effective, and readily available. Hydraulic steering is a nice upgrade, but many people balk at the price tag it comes with. What is the year and model of your outboard motor? Will it accept tilt tube mounted steering? It is hard to give price ranges without all the details.
