Good evening members, I was reading a post (11/07/08) about a Montauk with fuel tank issues. A member with a 95' Dauntless 15' replying to the post mentioned that he or she (can't remember) got fiberglass contamination in the O/B carbs from the original fuel tank. I am some what alarmed, I just purchased a used 96' Dauntless 15'( in very good condition) that was repowered with a 2008 Yamaha 90 hp earlier this year. The motor has only 20 hrs on it and the boat retains the original fiberglass fuel tank. An in-line fuel filter is in place, the fuel tank appears to be in good shape visually. The previous owner did not mention any fuel related issues. What should I be watching for to prevent a problem with the motor. The O/B is still under warranty and the repower along with new rigging was performed by a reputable boating center here in Miami, FL. It was suggested to me by an employee of the boating center that did the work on my Dauntless to include fuel additives produced by Yamaha to aide the O/B because of the newer fuel blends (I visited the center to transfer the warranty and to familiarize myself with their operation should I need any warranty work). Any possibility these additives by Yamaha might extend the service life of my fuel tank? Any imput will be greatly appreciated and thank you for this great site.
