i have been given a 1988 ish 7 1/2 hp johnson kicker and i would like to mount it on my 1987 17' montauk, which currently has a 115 hp on it at 306 pounds. the approx weight of this kicker is 57 pounds.
any feedback on the use of this kicker on this boat...
will it move it
will it move it well for trolling
it it too large for this boat
will the boat list much

A 7 1/2 would be fine. I had a Yamaha 9.9 4 stroke on my Montauk and I feel it was a little too heavy. 6-8 hp is perfect. The 9.9 can only push the hull so fast. A 6-8 would do nicely. Take a look at my PP to see my setup.

Joe, that first link, do you know what lake that is? I wish I knew of some liakes here in NY that were that clear and nice.

Harley,
Yes, I sure do.
That is McCloud Reservoir here in Upstate California.
That reservoir is about 45 minutes from my home. Nice Rainbow and German Brown trout.
Water runoff from Mt. Shasta drains into the Sacramento River. The William Hearst family has a home just above this reservoir on the river and can be seen by navigating upriver when the water levels are up.
It is a beautiful place to boat and fish but is not a very large body of water.

Harley,
next season try lake George, Water is very clear and clean. Reminded me if a small lake Tahoe, also a water deep lake. In shallow spots you can see the bottom, about 25 feet down.
With your new boat you can camp in the island section, lot of interesting activities there, a very cool lake...
Lot of restaurants and stops on the lake too... 32 miles from end to end
Only about 3 hours from NYC area.
Give it a try next year.
Jon
