Can anyone tell me the difference between the 17 super sport and the ss limited? I have a 1986 Model. Will the hull ID tell me which I have? Thanks for any help.

You can't tell which model it is from any numbers.

However, you can view the different models in our Whaler Model Specification section here:
http://www.whalercentral.com/userphot...owstart=20

In the Whaler Model Specifications section, we have one photo of the SS Limited:

If you have the 17' SS, how about submitting a photo on the left sidebar following the guidelines listed there?

Boopete,

I think there were 3 or 4 sport models of that era. Sport, Super Sport, and Super Sport limited. The console setup in the Limited model is quit different (more storage for one thing) and heavy rear deck designed to stand on.

I believe the basic sport model had lots of wood. When taken care off, they a have a very classy look.

Jon, I have looked at your boat several times, she looks great. However, I think you should have kept your Bottoms Up Boat! Just kidding. Thanks for your reply. Looking at the whaler spec page, 17 sport was made 1963-1983, 17 ss was made between 1984-1988, and the 17 ss limited was made between 1986-1990. Mine has a ton of storage that is enclosed under and behind the helm bench seat. I was just wondering the difference between the ss and ss limited. My neighbor bought a 2007, 15 sport that is laid out similiar to yours. Thanks for your help. Dave

I would have liked to see the rear storage box a little more so maybe he can submit a photo that shows everything. What say you boo?

I am the idiot that went thru the thought process of a 115 4 stroke with a 25" shaft. Needless to say. that didn't work. So now I am going to repower with a 90 merc. 4 stroke 20" shaft.. Binkie had a good thought on movin the whole int. forward 6" She is in the shop now and I will post somemore pics when she comes out. A whole lot different than what I posted..

I have an 84. I will set up a personal page and take pics. I see that there are not any in the reference pages of this model. Mine has a storage box, open to the right of the helm. The storage to the rear is similar to a 13 super sport, but does not go under the bench, It is just straight down. The cover opens to the front, so the best access is to stand between the engine and the rear seat. Great rideing boat, even in serious chop.

Alot of compliments on this boat. Many didn't know they made it. Most are Montauks.

Thanks for the reply. My storage behind the seat opens to the stern and is enclosed all the way under the helm bench seat, which opens towards the bow. You are right, they are a good ride even in rough water and very dry.
