I`ve asked this question before, and I1m sure I have gotten good answers, But still I can`t seem to be able to connect an avatar to my posts. OK, first I open up my Edit profile, I see the box next to Avatar. I`ve got lots of boat pictures in my photobucket, I pick one out , left click on Direct link, right click on COPY. Then I go back to Edit Profile and right click on the box next to Avatar. My link shows up in the box. I then click on Browse, and then click on Update Profile, but it doesn`t blink, and nothing happens:(. Please tell me what I`m doing wrong.
Please type slowly, and maybe in all Caps,, so I can understand.
Thanks, rich

It may be that the photo is too large. I believe the limit 100x100 pixels.

Hey Rich, I had the same problem for a year. I finally just added my picture to my signature block, the same way you would add a picture to your post. Then all of a sudden one day, my picture mysteriously became an avatar. Originally, I had my pictures resized properly and could never add an Avatar to my name.
It works now and though I have a better picture I'd rather use, I will stay with this one as I don't want to lose the coolness of having an Avatar.

Binkie - I am sure one of the admins would be happy to size your image and put it up for you. I can size it but without you giving me access to your personal page I could not post it. I am leaving for the coast in about an hour but if you want me to size it for you I will. Email it to me at robert@agentacom.com and I will make it the right size.

CES,
I am the mystery as I did that for you....
Binkie,
1. Download one of the standard avatars from the download section.
http://www.whalercentral.com/download...?cat_id=10
2. Upload it to your avatar section in your profile
See if that works. If it does, then something is obviously wrong with the other avatars you are trying to use.

Thanks Joe! I was scratching my head weekly as to why it wouldn't work for me. I appreciate it.

CES,
I would like you to try the same thing as I mentioned to binkie except you would have to delete your avatar first and then upload one of the standard ones...
I would like to get to the bottom of this for you guys if there really is a problem with your accounts or ? ......
Thanks

If none of you that are having problems are wanting to try my suggestions above then I can't help you.
We had 3 or 4 members yesterday that had no problems uploading their avatar so I have no idea why you 3 are having a problem.
Again, I can't help you unless you try what I asked above.

Jeff,
Did you download one of the standard avatars in the download section?
Once you have downloaded one of those, go into your "Edit Profile" and upload the avatar.
Tell me what happens or what errors you get after trying that.

Joe I'm making progress. I just got my link to work but still can't get an avatar to work. I think my SpongeBob graphic may be to big but I can't get your Outrage avatar up either.

The Outrage avatar uploaded just fine to your personal page along with spongebob.
Go to "Edit Profile" and upload the Outrage avatar and try that.
http://www.whalercentral.com/edit_pro...rofile.php
Your spongebob was too large for an avatar. I shrunk it for you.

It shows me that both images are uploaded but I can't see how to select them to make either of them an avatar.

Your personal page has nothing to do with an avatar.... Nothing....
You need to click on the link I gave you above to add your avatar...
The avatar will live in your profile, not your personal page...

I see the outrage avatar is working now..
This goes to show the others that the avatars are working properly if uploaded correctly....

Joe thanks a million, the Outrage is there. Now how do I get your resized sponge there?
Jeff

Well,
You can shrink it yourself from the larger version you have or you can save the one from your personal page to your computer desktop.
From your computer desktop, you can upload it to your profile the same way you did the outrage avatar.

I followed Joe`s instructions, and tried to upload a standard avatar, still no luck probably stupidity on my part. By the way Spongebob, you have the coolest avatar on the site.

Rich thanks for the compliment. This is how I did it:
1. Uploaded avatar from list.
2. Once avatar was uploaded I highlighted it or selected it, right clicked and copied it.
3. Opened "My Pictures" from Windows and pasted it there.
4. Then I went to Edit Profile on WC and clicked on Browse beside the avatar space.
5. "My pictures" then came up in a window and I selected the avatar I had just placed there and copied and pasted it
into the avatar address bar in Edit Profile.
6. Then clicked Update Profile at the bottom of the page and the avatar appeared in my profile and in the threads.

Binkie - Glad you got it figured out but I could not tell what you were driving. Try this on for size:
1 - Right click on this photo.

2 - Select Save Image As and save it to a location on your hard drive.
3 - Click Edit Profile on Whaler Central.
4 - Check the delete Avatar box and hit Update Profile.
5 - Now hit browse and locate the image you saved in step 2.
6 - Hit Update Profile and you are in business.

Bink -
Go ahead and take Rob's photo. He massaged it better than I did and it is the right size and dimension.
If you get stuck again, email me and I can do that same voodoo that I did last night (if I can remember ;) ) for you.
Thanks Rob.

I sent binkie almost the exact same image that Rob did yesterday around noon.
Apparently binkie doesn't check his email.

Okay, I decided to do EXACTLY what Rob mentioned above to change my Avatar and I lost my Avatar again. Now my profile will not let me upload a new one. Joe....I must be retarded!

CES,
That is because the avatar you are showing is NOT the correct size.
This is not the one you had before... Try finding the one you had in your signature which was the right size.

Cliff -
Your photo is too large, dimension wise. The limit is 100x100. Your photo is 145x97. Sent you a PM to help you fix this.

There is a size limit AND a dimension limit. While the size is fine, the dimension is too large. I know....it is confusing.

Trimmed it down to 98 x 65 pixels to meet the 100 x 100 pixel limit. No joy.

If you didn't get my email then what is your email?
I used the one in your profile. If this isn't correct, please let me know so we can fix it. Your profile must contain your current email so we can get ahold of you when necessary.

Cliff - Your avatar is still the old fuzzy picture. I assume you want the top image I posted above? I asked Joe to go in and change it for you. I would do it but I do not have admin rights or your password.

Oh. I saved it to my desktop and named it properly and then deleted the old picture and installed the new one per your directions above. I'll do it again....
Should be good to go, looks the same to me.
