I use my 2001 13 sport for everthing, It has a Mercury 40 HP 2-stroke with a 10-3/8" x 13 pitch prop.. I had a 14 pitch and got 32-35 mph out of it with 2 adults. With the 13 pitch, I can get up on plane with 3 normal size (about 180 lb ea) adults. I tried to get on plane with as many as four normal weight adults and get about 4,000 RPM plowing without a plane. I have tried to pull a tube behind the boat with poor results ( 3 adults, no plane).
My motor has less than 50 hours on it and I have thought about re-powering with a 50 HP before next season. I see several on WC use 50's on 13's. Would a 12 pitch make the difference, should I re-power to get adequate tube power, or, should I consider leaving well enough alone and look at a 15 sport in the future? I'vee seenmixed reviews on trim tabs and stabilizers.
I was looking at a 15 when i bought my 13. I love it but I want more! Any of these ideas best?

I had a 12" on my 40 hp when I got it from the dealer. With 4 adults of about 160 lbs each it would plane easiy and get up to cruise. I don't remember wot rpm with that load in the boat. I use a 13" ss prop for all around but I kept the 12" aluminum prop in case I use the boat for towing a tube or skier later.

the max rated hp is 40, any more you will void the warranty! And maybe have a accident or incident. Be safe.

I would suggest trying a prop of maybe less pitch 10x13 should have done the job as far as pulling the tube. I ran into the same problem, i'm running a 35 evinrude (82' model) it had a 10x15 prop and would not get on plane unless I did some wieght shifting and pulling a tube was a real pain. I put a 10x13 4 blade
http://www.comprop.com/ it made a world of difference it was like gaining 15 hp and it will not bog down in turns however I would make sure you run it in clean water as it is composite ( have a spare availible) I have not broke mine yet. Any way my setup has always performed better with the lower pitch (3 or 4 blade) and still holds about 25-30mph even with an extreme load of two decks, two adults, full 8 gallon tank, marine battery and splash well full of water most of my wieght is in the back and the boat still leaps out of the water. I am running a hydro-foil on the motor which helps greatly in performance and fuel burn.
