I bought a surplus 13 ft whaler, probably 1960's era, from a friend. I repainted the inside and am ready to put on the 40 horse Johnson outboard that came with it (motor has been checked out and works well). Is there a steering and seating kit for these? Also, how should I make sure that motor stays on ? There are just holes in the transom, no brackets or anything else. I don't know what is needed. At what price? I don't know much about Whalers, yet.

We need to know more info on your 40hp Johnson. If it is the original motor it might not have holes in the bracket for through bolting to the boat. If it is a later model with holes, bolt it on. If not make sure the clamps are tight and check often. Is the motor tiller or remote steer.?

Welcome to WC! Lot's of folks have the 13 foot whaler.
I have a 1966 13 foot BW and use a teleflex steering cable with a stand off bracket to steer my 1993 40Hp Yamaha.

Sounds like you need some help from someone who either lives close to you or from a marine mechanic who can rig your motor for u.
