Hi Folks,
Just recently bought our 1991 11 ft Whaler to replace the RIB that we had for a dingy. Sure see now why whalers are so popular for dingy's what a great little boat!! My problem is with the "clothesline" and pulley steering setup. I need to put a newer Teleflex type of steering on so that I can lift the boat on edge onto my swimgrid and swing the engine off the transom like a Seawise davit system. Has anyone changed over to a teleflex system or know someone who has? What system would work best? Can I install the system myself? Thanks for any help.

Thanks Bob,
I hope that the engine will swing out to about 90 degrees. I've seen a boat with a whaler that has about the same setup as what I"m looking to for and I think that the Teleflex is the way to go. Any idea if I can keep the whaler steering wheel and somehow adapt the hub for the Teleflex!

I guess I`m missing something, but I don`t understand why you can`t keep the cable and pulley system, which I think is better and smoother than modern cables. Obviously you can`t use the cable and pulley drum with modern cable steering, and you may or may not be able to use the same steering wheel, dependent on the taper of the shaft.

Thanks for the advice guys, I might try to modify where the steering attaches to the engine and keep the stock steering as it is. Someone on the Uniflite website stated that the whaler was not designed to be side mounted and could colapse on the bottom side. I was wondering what you as whaler owners think about that? I have seen that same whaler on a 39ft Meridian mounted on weaver davits and I didn't notice any structural damage to the side of the whaler. Any idea's would be appreciated.
