I'm a new Etec owner also, and have heard nothing but great things about the factory standing behind their engines. Keep us posted and good luck!

That seems so very unusual for an Etec.

the entire lower unit is blown apart. cooked the oil, ground the gears. with 20 minutes on her, i imagine it was put together wrong at the factory. gonna get a new lower unit for it.

Kitty,
I'm glad to hear that. The reputation of the engine is very good. I hope they get you back on the water soon.

Please be sure to give us a report as to the findings..............I think all ETEC owners will be anxious to hear the outcome.............With 20 minutes on it though I think that I would have to insist on a new motor and not just a lower unit...........

I saw kitty today it turned out great .I stopped by to pay for my new etec that I put on my refurbished montauk.I'm sure everything will be made right with the motor. My son works there and swears by the etec.

I also would insist on another "New" motor, you have that right, I've heard of other brand's doing similar thing's while at "Dealer Prep", a friend had a power head blow while at the dock when picking up his new engine, the "Dealer" said "No problem, I'll call the company and we'll just put on a new power head". He laughed and said "No you're going to put on a NEW motor", they did. I'm not 100% sure but, I believe "Bombardier" no longer has any part's assembled in Mexico (A good thing, Ole').

I would request a new motor. Seem to me that once problematic you will always have issues. All manufactures have a bad engine come off the line once in a while. I would let them have it back and start over fresh.

the engine is fixed with a new lower unit. it ground the gears, put together wrong at the factory after twenty minutes of running im sure. i spent saturday with the boat and cadillac rob. now i want to sell it. its perfect, everything is new. engine has five hours. ill post a link, but i dont know how to put pictures up here. its impossible.

its too small, at 6'6" 250, i think ill do a montauk. that was my first whaler anyway. my knees are in my chin.

I think if you mounted the rear thwart (seat) on top of the seat clamp, instead of underneath, and installed a taller by 6" console, you would be comfortable. I`m only 6', but I don`t know how anyone can drive a 13 or 15 footer with the stock setup. Comfortable for small kids only.

Look at how I mounted the seats on top instead of the bottom. It raises it about 3.5 inches which has a big impact on the knees and legs

ip, i never noticed that before. anyway, i wanted to do it just like it came from the factory. but i see what you mean. at my size, its knees to chin.

Kitty,
I did my 15 that way with the seat and I am tall, it does make a big difference. I would like to see your Whaler, might know someone interested. Let me know if you will be around this weekend. Oh, thanks again for those side rails. I buffed them up and bought new stanchions and installed them on my 13. Talk to you soon.
