I have a 1984 100HP commercial Johnson outboard. I cannot find the timing for this unit as it predates Bombardier's records. I have several timing specs from 18 degrees BTDC to 26 degrees BTDC. I am lacking pickup out of the hole and don't seem to be getting good top end speed and lack ability to plane out. Any suggestions as I just rebuilt the engine.

Thanks!

Jan, Can you check the model number on the port side of the engine bracket to confirm the year? It should start with J100

Dave,

The model number is J100WTLCRS.

And I liked in Kingston for 10 years before being relocated to central Florida. I miss home!!,

My info stops at '80 for the 100 HP model, so the commercial must be a separate entity as the spec's for the '84 model year only list a 90 and 115 hp but no 100, sorry.

Head over to http://themarinedoctor.com/ and ask, he should be able to give you the specifics you need, and he also has a good video on setting the static timing (beats hanging over the powerhead at WOT with a timing light) as well as numerous others....

That's funny as I lived down on the West Central coast for almost 7 years and I really miss it at times... (including the second half of fall, all winter, and a good part of spring!)
