Picture below shows a prop i just bought on ebay. I use it for a 1975 40hp johnson on my 1970 13 ft whaler. I replaced a 13 pitch 10 1/2 by this 14 pitch 10 3/8.
Not long after putting it on it started to slip heavily; no power. So i returned home.
The result is shown below. The inner rubberwork is torn apart. An awkward view. The rubber used to hold it together. Has anyone ever seen something like this?
Would it be possible to fix this?

Looks to me that you "spun" the hub. The rubber is in there to somewhat protect the lower unit and the propeller from when you strike something hard. Spinning the prop is a protection feature designed in the prop.
Chances are the rubber hub was dry rotted or previously spun. You can get them re-hubbed for relatively low cost. Good luck.

No problem, and not a big expense to get rehubed. I never saw one where the prop came off. you might be lucky you didn`t lose it. may have been spun when you bought it.
