Thanks for the responses on my cable routing. It seems I also have a problem with my gear shifting. It shifts into gear but requires a good amount of force to do so. The engine has been not used for over 3 years and maybe it just needs to be used and will loosen up. I don't know and am afraid I might cause serious damage. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Bob

Bob,

If your control cables were poorly routed and made a sharp bend at some point, then that is it why it is hard to shift. Once the solid stainless steel core of a control cable, be it a throttle or shift cable, is bent, it will never operate smoothly again.

I suggest you replace your control cables and route them correctly.
