I have filled my Outrage 22 twice now to what I thought was full, but every time I go back, the gas gauge, which is new and did read properly when installed, reads 3/4 of a tank and the boat smells of gas. 1/4 of a tank is about 20 gallons, so where the hell would all this gas go?
My biggest concern is that the gas could be eating the foam. Is this a possibility, or is the foam in a Whaler hull resistant to gasoline?
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

No the gas should not eat the foam. The fuel is leaking out of the tank an just sitting in the fuel tank cavity.
See my article
here for the under deck layout of a 22.

i had the similar problem last season. i broke down about a 1/4 mile out of my marina and took my boat to my mechanic the next day and he told me my motor was full of motor. i thought i just had a little bit of water in the fuel tank so i had it pumped out. soon after that we had a big thunderstorm and i had forgotten to remove the plug and the boat filled up with water and my tnk went from empty to full and from that i knew i had a hole in my tank. i pulled up the access plates and the whole fuel cavity reaked of gasoline. i then pulled up the tank and found the whole top of the tank pourous with one whole about the half of a size of a dime. i had a new tank put in this season(sprayed with 2 coats of epoxy) and i installed a sea star hydraulic steering system while the deck was up and had the plywood undrneath the deck replaced and glassed.
