If they are as great as the previous ETECs then they have a Homerun! :D

Thanks for the heads up seahorse.

I have been waiting to take a hard look at the 130 hp for my Outrage 18' instead of the 150.
I am also waiting on the 9.9 E-Tec

Will they be coming out with a 25 and 40hp E-Tec?

There already is a 40hp E-Tec.

Binkie,

They already have the 40 hp. It is the same block as the 50 and 60 hp which is why the 40, 50 and 60 all weigh the same.

Yes, BRP just announced they are coming out with the 25 hp and the 30 hp this fall.
Look at their website.

Joe, are you waiting for the 9.9 as a kicker for your 18? I definately will be wanting to mount a kicker on my boat, but am not sure how much horse power i need for a 22 foot. Some suggestions would be welcome.

Duf,

I have a 15 kicker. I believe a 2 stroke 20 would not be too big. The 15 bracket does not clamp on the transom as nice as I would like, because the bracket clamps do not open quite far enough to accommodate the curve of the transom. I have the motor secured through the port side towing eye.

I have the 15 connected to the main steering. Throttle/shift functions are controlled with a Morse twin engine control box which also controls the main engine. We troll for salmon quite a bit up here in the Pacific Northwest, so the forward controlls are really nice.

I finally was able to get an oil mixer set up on the boat (Mercury Autoblend to mix the oil for my non-oil injected kicker). It is really nice to not have an extra fuel tank on deck.

The 15 will move the 22 at over 7mph. I forget exactly how fast, but if it does push it faster than that, it would not be much more. My brother in law has an Outrage 25 with a 25 kicker. I don't think it pushes his 25 much faster than the 15 pushes my 22.

There is a maximum hull speed without being on plane. It is around 6 to 8 mph depending on the hull..

Example:
You could put a 40 hp on it and it will go 7 mph
You could put a 25 hp on it and it will go 7 mph
You could put a 15 hp on it and it will go 7 mph
You could put a 9.9 on it and it will go 7 mph
Unless the motor can get you up on plane, you will go 7 mph......

A kicker motor is designed for speed. It is used mostly for slow trolling while fishing and/or to get you out of trouble, like keeping you off the rocks or away from the inshore waves. A kicker motor could also get you into a safe cove or out of the faster current etc.....

duf,
If I were you, I would consider buying the 15 hp if the 9.9 hp weighs the same which in general seems to be the case these days. Most 9.9 hp today weigh the same as the 15 hp... Even though they will most likely have the same top speed, a 15 hp might be easier to sell someday.
Myself, I'm going for the 9.9 most likely as I am very happy with the 8 hp I have right now as far as weight and speed, I just am ready for new engines.

I always liked those V4's and only 5 lbs heavier then Mercs 115 Opti, not too bad.
