I've got a 26 gallon Moeller top side gas tank. The gas cap threads have started to fail. I bought back in the fall, not sure from whom. The tank is under warranty only if I can prove where and when I bought the tank which I can not. I called Moeller, they can't sell to me but gave me a part number and told me to call Boaters World and another reseller. The woman from Moeller said the cap is a special order. Boaters World does not sell caps, not even special order. The same goes for Eastern Marine. I called Moeller back and they told me I'm basically out of luck. WTF???? I have a 9 month old tank I can't even get a new cap for??? To add insult to injury Moeller said their is only one cap that fits. What a great freaking company Moeller is. Any help or ideas?

did I see a thread on here a couple of months back about a car gas cap that was lower profile that may fit?? Anyone?

Lawn mower gas caps from the garden section in Wal-Mart seem to work fine on the Tempo tanks.
Not sure about the Moeller but I would give it a try.
You can always return the gas cap if it doesn't work.

Update
The cap is on its way. I got a call back from the sales guy at WM. He called Moeller for the price and yes indeed that is the only cap which will fit the 26 gallon on deck tank, what a scam that is. I should see it in about a week.

I got mine at Farm and Fleet for about $4.00. Perfect fit on my 26 Gal tank.
