I have an 84 outrage 18' and the gelcoat is a little discolored. Does anyone know of any good solutions to make the gelcoat look like knew again without having to redo the hole thing.

Wet sand with 600,1000 and up and see how the small area that you have done will look compared to the rest of the gel coated areas.

If the gel coat is just looks oxidized (Fuzzy) and you don't want a major overhaul I wood use Woody Wax Fiberglass compound which restores gelcoat and is easy to put on and take off. I just did my 77 whaler and this stuff brought a great shine out, and even completely removed rust stains from transom drain tubes. After that wax and you'll be set.

you can use the following.
1. rubbing compound / Color Restorer
2. buff magic -> simular to rubbing compound
3. sandpaper.
I would try the rubbing compound or Color Restorer first. If that fails to bring back the color and shine, go with Buff Magic. Last resort is wet sanding the hull starting at 400 grit and working up to 1500 grit.

I also would start out with a mild rubbing compound, unless you have scratches and the like, there is no need to erode your gelcoat any more than you have to. There is only 20 mm or so there, and it is best to remove as little as possible. This way, you or the next owner will have something to work with, next time. In any restoration project, start with the mildest approach that you think might work.
