I installed a steering guard nut w/ "O" ring after replacing a frozen steering cable in my tilt tube, the nut has a zirk fitting for grease, it also has a port for optional steering lubricant (oil), I have NOT added anything yet, should I use marine rated grease, or use the Oil, or just leave it dry to protect the steering arm from salt water and sand. Can anyone who uses this device suggest the correct lubricant for salt water use.

Thank's...

I have used marine grease in both of my engine tilt tubes with a steersman nut installed. Never had a problem or a freeze up.

In the spring, the steering is like "buttah"

I would NOT leave it dry.

I agree, I'd suggest greasing it too. Before you do, loosen the large nut on the other side (that holds the cable to the tilt tube), this will allow the grease to more easily flow through the tube.
