sprayed gel on the inside of the hull yesterday, plan on mounting the new electric panel under the side console. anyone have a different idea? it just seems to make more sense. out of the weather, easy access, right where it needs to be. before i put everything back in boat can anyone give any advice on little things like that because they did it before. went with hydraulic steering for a new 60 hp e-tec. bought the mahogany from speciality marine. nice product, after i refinished it. too many missed spots and finger prints. bought a bimini top and wrap around rail. downloaded the wood locating diagram off here. im sure the idea is to mount to the hidden wood.thanks for any help, i have really enjoyed doing this boat. everyone should do it sometime.

trying to install the new ss rails. there seems to be a problem. first where can i see a diagram of where they actually go? it seems the foot on the hatch deck does not have wood there according to the wood location diagram. also, if all the pieces are built at 90 degrees, and the rail rises at 4 or 5 % how are the feet supposed to sit flat where they screw in? does this make sense to anyone. i put the new rail together this weekend but the screw down feet dont sit flat on the boat deck. if all the parts are t fittings at 90 degrees and 90 degree foot stanchions, and the ss rail rises at approx 5%, somethings gotta give. any help would be appreciated.

kitty,

Where did you buy the rail(s)?
Is this the bow rail?
or the side rails?

I would contact the people you bought the rails from and find out what is going on.
Are you sure they are for a 1988 15' Super Sport?

Hopefully someone here with a 15' can help you more.

kitty. can you post some pics of the new rails, and how they fit on the gunwales? Sounds like the bends aren`t quite right. Might be easy to remedy this though.

thanks, i bought the rail from speciality marine. they are the complete wrap around rail that all 15 super sport models came with. the quality is great but the angle of the dangle aint quite right. it seems to me that the down legs [six in all] need a slight bend in them to make them flat on the deck. im not going to install until i find out whats wrong. anyone on here have a 15 super sport? thanks.

Kitty,

check sbs80's personal page. maybe you could get some close up shots of the rails installed.

Sorry kitty, nothing I can add here to help, but I'm following this thread closely, as I'm pondering the same project/same supplier this winter. I do remember reading somewhere on this board or elsewhere that others have experienced similar issues when undertaking this particular project. I hope it works out for you.

Hi everyone, this is Eric from Specialty Marine. As odd as it sounds, the original rail from BW that came standard on the super sport models had all 90 degree T fittings and straight uprights even though the rail angles up slightly from stern to bow. There were no bends anywhere in the rail to compensate for the slight angle. If anyone out there has the original rail they should be able to confirm this. There is a little bit of play within the T fittings and bases and this seems to be just enough to get the bases to sit flush on the deck, albeit you do have to literally force them into place. I am not sure why they made them like this, but it is what it is I suppose. I just emailed you Kitty and will call you also tomorrow to discuss. thanks,

Eric

Not sure exactly what you mean by the electric panel, but look at my personal page and you can see how I mounted mine under the consol....I did all of the wiring before I mounted the consol in the boat...Hope this helps.

iop, i agree. i did away with the purist approach some may want. i also put the new panel under the console. its by blue seas. i offered the old cover to anyone and this weekend im mailing it to canada. for the purist restorer, there is no substitute. B)
