The engine in question is fairly new, with just a few hours on her. Unlike the DTS on my 175 Verado-powered boat, this side control has almost no effect on acceleration or throttle from "12:00" to "2:15" in forward gear, and from "12:00 to "9:45" in reverse gear. All of the engine's acceleration takes place from "2:15-3:00". I hope you get the drift.

Is this normal? It does not seem precise, and it makes seeking the right speed for any condition difficult; you easily overshoot or undershoot your target RPM, given the limited range you are actually adjusting.

Is it an easy fix for me to do myself? I can always bring it to the dealer, but I wouldn't mind being able to do simple adjustments myself.

There is a friction adjustment screw that is under the the throttle cover.

As for the "play". I have similar play on my standard Yamaha 704 so it may be typical. I defer to those more experienced with the newer Quicksilver side mount throttle controls.

I would suggest you get the parts/service diagrams for the control from your dealer. Just for your records.

Any chance for a part number? I just put a Merc side mount in and have the old one in pieces.. There is the chance for slop in the cam and follower for the cable. There should be three screws holding the mount together from the back side. If you take those out and split the box slowly you will be able to see what is going on in there. Take careful note how all the wire for the key and kill switch is crammed in there, if you try and move that bundle around to much it is a challange to get it all back in..9# in 3# bag....
