The port side nylon bushing pushed out when I gave it a grease shot. This bring's me to the conclusion that I did NOT put it in right (it sliped out while I removed the tilt tube). I think it's supposed to go between the tilt bracket on the eng. and the stationary part of the motor bolted to the transom (in the middle between the two while riding on the tilt tube). This is the fourth time I have removed the "Tilt Tube" from the engine, I needed an 11' steering cable and got a 12' steering cable, I decided to "Fly" with it (12') and when I greased up, the bushing came out. This MADE me go and order the right sized cable (which will be in on Tuesday) The 12' steering cable bugged me cause, it hung over the transom a bit too much, and I was afraid it would "snag" on something (Dock cleat, line, or other raised motor's nearby etc.). Any input is appreciated as I want to make sure the nylon bushing is located properly, as this repair is now incorporated in my 5 year plan.

I checked the exploded view you sent, and it look's like there is a small retaining ring incorporated on the bushing, I did notice a small sliver of plastic come out with the bushing, I must have broken it off while working the tilt tube back in on the 2nd or 3rd attempt, that's why it pushed out with the greasing of the port tilt bearing, look's like I'll have to rent an engine hoist, I'm really into it now boy !

I admire your attitude Matt, stick with it! And while you're there, may want to consider swapping the tilt tube for a stainless one... Two birds with one stone, then it's over and done with no more worries!
