I have been researching to see if this exists. Anyone heard of this? From what I have read, they didn't start making this model until after 1965...
Thanks-Chelley

Welcome Aboard Chelley!
I believe they started a 16 Montauk I & II in 1973 - 1976 Started the official 17 Montauk.
In 1965 they had - Nauset, Eastport, Sakonnet and Currituck on the 16' 7" Hull.
At least that is what I know- Tom Clark is the resident expert on this - I'm sure he will chime in on this thread.

Hi chelley and welcome aboard WhalerCentral.
1973 started the official Montauk model.
See this link for specifications:

Also see this link for people that own Montuaks:

You can view all the model specifications here to determine which model is which:

Many people think that all Whalers are Montauks. As you well know, this is NOT the case.
Just like automobiles, all cars are not Ford Pintos.... :D
There are many different models and changes through the years.
Do you have any photos of the model you have in mind so we can tell you what model you are looking at?

Look at my avatar for a "hamburger montauk". It means that I installed a Carolina Skiff console and ripped out the old "Katama" console. This has forever degraded my boat to "work boat" status. But hey... it's still a whaler!!
