With almost 10,000 members on this site, I would think there would be a lot more people posting. If you have a Whaler, or want a Whaler, I`m sure you can think of some questions to ask, or offer some help to others. It seems that the same 50-100 members, do all the posting over and over again. I know some people prefer to just lurk, but that doesn`t help this website grow.

In that vain, here's a question for those with '80's era Outrage 18's.

I purchased a stern seat for my 89 Outrage 18 from Specialty Marine.
The seat is excellent quality, but it did not come with any mounting instructions, or locations to mount this seat.
Now, i have seen the wood locating diagrams shown on this sight, but they are not very clear/legible.

Is there anyone that has a stern seat, that can give me some guidance at to where to mount this? Dimensions would be helpful.

in the downloads section there is the instruction sheet for installing the OEM wrap around stern seat.
Tilt your engine all the way up and mount the stern seat as far back as you can but still allow the engine to fully tilt up. I also raised mine up 2 inches to gain more storage under the stern seat, and as a result I did not actually screw the seat into the deck. It is heavy enough and stays down with just the back support bar. If you do not raise your seat so you have the OEM legs directly on the non-skid with no padding you may not want to leave it loose, in the event it damages the non-skid should it move.

I like the idea of not screwing it to the floor. This seat is more or less for the comfort of wife and kids, but woul dget in the way of fishing, so a temporart mount would be ideal Did you raise it up with just some marine plywood? I could mount the Metal mounts to blocks of wood, then just sit those on the deck, and use the back rail to secure it?

Kamie, You seem to be able to keep about 100 post lead without frivolous posts, but I predict Casco Bay Outrage will catch you in about a year at about 1200 posts.

Maybe I`ll try using my Whaler once in a while, instead of just sitting here in my comfortable chair. LOLB)

I was just kidding about working hard to get off the list... truth is, my BW project has had to take a back seat to some other things. I'm up in PA for the summer on some projects, and the boat is over 3 hrs. away, near Lewes, DE. My goal is to at least get the gelcoat stripped off and re=gelled this summer. If I get it in the water, so much the better, but I'm being realistic. Thanks for the inquiries. You can bet I'll post and update the old personal page as I progress. Top posters board? I vote to keep it, but I'm not married to it.

On topic: Lurk or mega=post, I say.... whatever floats your boat. For all the site has to offer, and it's a lot, the discussion boards are, in my view, central to Whaler Central!

I don't post often, but love reading the articles & stuff. I have gained a ton of useful information from this site (I've been lurking since the begining). Great job guys!!!!!

I just posted for the last time today on the "other" site. The other site is full of arrogance & attitude that is just uncalled for; I can't even stand reading the posts there anymore. I will puke if I ever see another post that has been edited by the site moderator (sorry if my spelling is really that bad).

I stopped reading the General Area posts long ago over "there" because it is full of useless dribble & an elitist, condesending attitude. I would still check out the stuff people were selling, however there are a handful of individuals that have made the Marketplace forum a complete joke; bitching at eachother like a bunch of little school girls. The straw that broke the camel's back was;

"I have almost 20,000 posts since 2001, you just aint been around enough to know who I am." My hero; this guy fancies himself a real BIGSHOT. More like a big clown. "I'm better than you because I have owned more boats than you and post more than you". It is this lousy attitude that really turns people off & drags a website down.

The reason whe are hear is because we all own & enjoy our boats and want to learn more & share our experiences. I don't care if you have had 50 whalers or are a newbie; no one is better than anyone else, and no one should be trashing others for no reason.

Post away everyone, but please lets keep the BS & attitude off this site. No politics, no religion, no gun control, no mindless quarreling about stupid stuff. I deal with enough drama in real life; I don't want to deal with it here as well. Lets keep it all about the Whalers.

My vote is to keep it as well. The only thing it has ever meant to me, was who was contributing the most. Kamie is usually at the top, but if you look at her posts, they are always constructive and in line with helping other Whalers, and she does a lot of it. Mentally i have thought many times, (being a single guy) why can't i find a girlfriend that knows that stuff (good thing you don't live nearby Kamie) :p So, frankly i find it harmless, it does reflect activity, and for me using the website for over a year, i haven't seen but a few Dumb A posts, and our administraters, or high end users have jumped in to nip it in the bud. So i'm good to go with leaving it as it is.

Duf, I`m with you, I don`t personally know any women who will restore my boat for me, or work along side. I`d be good to find one though, wouldn`t it. Dream on. I know of at least three on the other site, although one got banned, recently. Might be others, other than kamie here too. My ex did some canvass work, but wasn`t into sanding or glassing.

Let's keep things focused on what we do here at WhalerCentral.

What other sites DO or DON'T do is none of our business and should be left at that.

Over the winter many of you took your boats apart to refinish and/or replace items. Did you take any photos while you where doing this? If so, please send them in.
Any photo that we don't already have will be posted. (as long as it is a good photo of course)
I've taken photos of every part I can at this time. I don't have anymore parts to take photos of so we could use some help is this department.

Now, charge up those camera batteries and take some photos next time you take a part off or the next time you go boating, take a photo of your boat and follow these guidelines.

I vote to keep the top posts as well, and not because I'm at the top of the list. It shows that the forums are active and that encourages new people to join and hopefully participate. I agree that we should all focus on making Whaler Central the best destination on the web for and about Boston Whalers. The web site is what we all make it, Joe, Mike, Jeff, Tom are just providing a framework but the site doesn't function unless the members keep asking and answering questions, keep posting stories and pictures and generally keep sharing their love of these boats.

As for photo's, you have photo's of every thing on my boats, but for those of you with models that don't have photo's in the gallery, get busy. I can't believe with 9,000+ members all the whaler model pages don't have at least 2 or maybe 3 photo's of each model and hundreds more parts photo's

Thank You to the core of dedicated Whaler enthusiasts who comprise the bulk of the posting traffic here. A testament to your work are the kind words of others here who hold your advice and opinions as a standard by which they judge other input from whatever other sources. If the top posters board is anything, it is a badge of honor and a recognition of all the hours of selfless effort these individuals have given this community. They deserve to be noticed and I would vote to continue to do so.

Very well said and I would second your praise for this site.

A year ago I knew virtually nothing about boats other than I was going to buy one. I happened upon this website and in the past year I have learned more than I could've imagined. Thanks to all the advise of the people in this community. Frankly, I would have still bought the boat but if I had not found WC I would have been in a world of hurt. Or, I would have paid someone to do a lot more work on the boat. As I had hoped the work on the boat is part of the joy.

I am about to put the last touches on the 18' and then I will get out the digital and add some new pics to my personal page so you all can see the fruits of your labor.
