Apologies for the short notice.

CW member and all around good guy Kyle is back for a short time. Plan is to get together this coming Sunday, June 15th.

Tentative plan is for me to launch at Eliot and go down river and up the coast to York. High Tide is 10 a.m. so visiting Brave Harbor is possible if done early.

This will be a low key, bomb around, yak about whalers event.

Today was another great day on the water.

York Harbor is a small protected harbor with a ripping tidal current (5-8 mph), really cool geography and has that Down East Magazine feel. It is also a whaler oasis. From old 13's, 15 sports, Nausets, Katamas, Montauks, 18 Outrages, Outrage 17 II, Dauntless 16/18's and the new models. 170's, Dauntless 220, Outrage 210, 240's, 270 and Conquests....Wow, whalers everywhere.

I think you should leave the diatribe in; new owners and people who haven't been out in 3-6 foot seas should know that it's not a picnic and requires a little more skill than the average river ride. My wife doesn't enjoy those conditions much so I try to keep trips like that to a minimum when she is aboard. The fact is, I don't enjoy those conditions very much either.

Sorry I didn't get to say hello yesterday. I didn't get the boat launched until about 1:00 and by the time I got things settled it was too late to head down river. But I was listening to the weather and wondered how a trip up the coast might be.

We have made the trip from Portsmouth to Portland and then Boothbay and to Penobscott Bay and beyond a number of times and have had "snotty" conditions up or back about one third of the times. Depending on how bad it is we sometimes duck into Kennebunkport for a little rest before continuing. I remember once it was so bad that we only got to York before we needed a respite.

We have used the services of York Harbor Marine and like their service and attitude. So far, the new owners have kept up the good service.

Alright Phil you got me, here I am! I meant to call you and see how the ride back to NH was? It seemed like it calmed down some as we went out and went north after you took off towards NH. My uncle could not stop talking about how crazy you must be after watching you go near airborne time after time heading up! :)

Well, the ride back was much different that the ride northeast. Instead of 3-5 breaking waves, it was 2-4 swells with no tops. While my trip up took over an hour (averaged 13 mph), the trip down took 20 minutes. Not a broken latch to boot!

Sitting at the dock in the harbor was the perfect respite after my slam/bash fest. I must admit I was very sore for 2 days after. Hands, arms, legs....what a workout.

Call me the next time you will be in YH!
