Jeff,it was unfortunate that the fog socked in everyone East of me and prevented many others from attempting to set off from the Sound,my phone became alive at 4:30 AM and I spoke to many remorseful souls. The majority of boats were to present from the Long Island Sound and were recruited on the water,at marinas and via word of mouth .We didn't miss anything as far as permits and support from everywhere all went off without a hitch ! The relationships we developed in New York planning this event resulted in offers for next year ! Anyone with any thoughts on improvement and additions for next year please let us know. Thanks to everyone for the support in making this 1st effort a success, Jim

We had a great time. It was nice to see y'all outside cyber space!

Just curious, How far did some of you travel (by water)? We trailered the montauk to Nyack, It was 95 miles round trip from there. I calculated 4.6 MPG on the '87 Johnson 90hp. The tide and wind were with us for the ride home. Does that sound like apropriate fuel economy for an old carbed two stroke?

Lucky Dog, looks like you guys had a pretty sweet ride all the way in and out. I think you did pretty good with your fuel.

We were bucking the tide all day long. I ran 1000 rpm higher than I normally would and got about 25 nm to a 6.6 gallon can. That's about 3.8 nm per gallon. What's the nm/statute conversion...?

When I slowed down on my way home, running more like 3500 rpm my mileage picked up to 29 nm for a can (two caveats though, my buddy Robert filled the can at 23rd St. so I don't know exactly how 'full' it was, and I was once again beating against a pretty good tide all the way out). I did a practice run the other day and got 31.5 nm (36.3 statute) on a 6.6 gallon tank. That's 4.7nm/gallon or 5.5 mpg (statute). By the way, 2003 Mercury Saltwater 90 2-stroke.

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who put this together. It was a
unique experience for a very unique group of boat owners. Next year

How much fuel did you burn on that long trip. 139 Miles??

I have two 19 gallon saddle tanks, carried 3 five gallon jerry cans just in case, no idea on how much I burned, but I'm still working off the saddles. My Optimax gets better than 6 miles per gallon at a 28 MPH cruise,I would guess I burned 30+ gallons.

Port Washington was a great place to launch. Best of all, since I came before 9am, it was free.
I probably only burned 15 or 20 gal of gas to since Port Washington is so close to Manhattan.
I chose to launch off the northwest shore because my gf didn't want to travel too many miles by boat. I would have trailered to the Statue, but I don't have trailer brakes and my Ford Escape is kind of small to be towing that much weight in heavy traffic.
I was lucky to have ran accross Cap'n Kurt to guide me to Scrimshaws crowd. My GPS was out of order and I don't know the area at all. :o
