I have an old 16'7" and I know that the foam is somewhat wet. It sits high in the water and goes real nice at high speed. Is it normal for an old boat to have wet foam? I have no way of weighing it and don't want to worry about it if it's somewhat normal for an old Whaler

Well I think you answered the question yourself. If it sits high and the top end speed is good it should be ok. I would say that any old boat is going to have some water in it. If you have a landfill near you they have scales there to weigh the boat.

I wouldn`t worry about it. If you find a place where water is obviously getting in the foam, I would certainly repair that place. Other wise forget about it and enjoy your boat.:)

Couldn't agree more, if it's sitting high in the water, you're ahead of the game. Give it a good once over and seal up any and all points of entry, inside and out, and you're good to go!

If you live near an interstate highway with a truck stop, they usually have scales.

Thanks for the input. I think I was only looking for a little reassurance. I changed the bow eye and when I drilled it the drill was wet. It does sit high and goes real nice with a 50 HP engine.

I went through the whole process last spring when I bought my boat, and eventually learned if there is water in it, you can't do anything about it anyway. From what you describe, it sounds like yours is minimal. So make sure it's all sealed up well and enjoy it, no worries!!
