Looking for options on how to replace front hatch. Ours is original and falling apart. Also, front running light keeps working itermitently -any tricks to keep it dry. Thanks,Joe.

Is your front hatch wood or fiberglass? The front running light is a common problem -- first check the bulb, connector in the base of the lamp and wires on the bottom of the housing. If those all look to be in order, my Montauk has a place at the stern where the rear and front lights punch down together. Check the connections there as they are really a common place for connection failure. If those are good I would check continuity on the wires that enter the hull at the stern and come out from the bow. These should be inside the hull. If they are faulty your options are limited. Most on this site recommend running them around the outside enclosed in the 2 piece bumper guard. If all else fails you may want to check your dash switch as well. I had an old 3 way switch that was failing and I thought it was the wires.

I recall the 89 had a teak locker (see attached photo from my 87)

Your choices are:

1) Use your pieces as templates to build a new one. Original was teak.
2) Make one from teak or attractive marine plywood
3) Make one out of starboard or other composite material.

I refurbished mine using the old cover as a template. I drilled out the old wood plugs and unsrewed the cover. I replaced the rotted pieces and salvaged the good teak. I bought a wood plug drill bit and made my own plugs from some old teak. I screwed it all back together and installed the wood plugs. It was pretty straight forward.
