Thread subject: Whaler Central - Boston Whaler Boat Information and Photos :: 45 HP Honda bogs at 2000 rpm ??

I have a 45 HP 4 stroke Honda that's starting to bog at around 2000 rpm. :| If it's not bogging, it feels weak and unsteady at that rpm.

From idle to 1500 rpm is smooth. And above 2500 rpm is okay.

Are the carbs going out of sync?

Are the carb jets plugging up?

Suggestions?

Thanks,

Is 2,000 - 2500 rpm's your transition from displacement to a plane?

If the motor has carbs, check all the filters. it sounds as the jets and passages are starting to clog. Can't hurt to break them down and clean.

I had this symptom last year. Led to a serious overhaul of the fuel system (fuel injected) in April.

You're right. That's about where it get's on plane. It'll get up with more rpm but won't back down smoothly.
I ran it in some pretty rough water today and the bogging is more distinct. Also, runs very unevenly at that rpm. Not good when you're trying to get through 4-6 foot swells in a boat that's so small. I'll go redo the carbs before I get stuck.
