I am thinking about moving up to a larger whaler ( family of 5 ) and my montauk is getting really small. If I was to sell the 83 montauk without a motor and is like "A- condition" what would be a general price I should ask for it ??? Please help ..... Kevin:|

I purchased a "B" '83 Montauk in October and paid around $7,800. However, that included a 2000 Yamaha 100 HP 4-stroke. I'm not sure what that motor goes for by itself, I'm guessing around $3200. So maybe $4,000 to $5,000 for your hull? Your geographic location may also be relevant. I purchased mine from a seller in Florida and I think the market may have been a little soft. Good luck -

A lot will depend on where you are located, what else comes with the boat (trailer, electronics, canvas), bottom paint?, and other factors. Lot of high res images will help tell the story of the boat because one's A- condition could be an others B-. I am not saying you are pushing your hull just that overall condition can be subjective. Also, if there is a motor on the hull I would sell the boat with it. You will be able to ask and get more for the boat and most want a hull with power on it.

Thanks alot for the help, it does have a 90 merc on it that I just overhauled last year and I was thinking about putting it on my kids bass boat ... But I haven't decided ... I luv the boat, I just need more room and to answer your question worst case scenario I would call it a solid B+ or better, and I just wondered If anyone had any suggestions were the best place to sell it would be , ebay, craig list, etc .... AGAIN THANKYOU FOR THE HELP .... Kevin:|

Kevin,
Look at it this way. If you could get $4000-$5000 for your hull with out a motor or $8000-$9000 with a motor you would be better off selling it with a motor. Then take that extra money and buy a really nice used motor for $2000 - $2500 or less for the bass boat and you are still ahead.
Try all of your free options for listing the boat first.
You have Craigslist, this website and other boating sites, and do not forget about the newly launched
Whalermall.com which has free hosting.
Also, you still have not stated where you and the boat are located.
GMeader,
You got a HELLUVA DEAL on your boat.

Put some pictures up on this site.
boattrader.com is good. Also, the Houston Chronicle is a good place. I have called about several Montauks in the past that sold in one day in Houston.
