I'm looking for the rubber window moulding material to replace the old material on my 1968 Montaulk. Does anyone konw if it is available?

Petro Plastics, several of us have gotten replacement gaskets from them and have been very pleased.

tompkinstom,

There is no such thing as a 1968 Montauk. The Montauk was not introduced until 1973. No Montauk ever used the windshield moulding.

You have a Nauset, Sakonnet or Eastport if you are in need of the windshield moulding.

Ask for Bill Gathercole,
He's going to recommend that you buy 16'...you really only need 10, plus or minus...
But it's great stuff...made a huge difference in a refurbished windshield:D

My boat is an Eastport sans the foward deck.: Sorry if I offended anyone on the site and many thanks for the information. Does the moulding get glued in to the window channel?

Don't ever worry about offending anyone on this site by asking a question. That's what all are here for is to help fellow Whaler lovers find the answers to their questions. You'll also note that in most cases there will be many many answers and opinions! :D Many times will contradict one another too!

The molding foot has 'ribs' that will keep it in the channel so don't use glue. I set the glass panes in the unit with clear silicon and then tapped the gasket into the channel using a rubber mallet and a thin piece of wood. I found the job to be a lot easier with two people; one holds the gasket flat on the glass and aligned to fit into the channel, the other does the tapping. The gasket will twist and not lay flat at the corners, trying to keep the gasket flat and do the tapping by oneself is a royal and frustrating pain. Even though 16' is way more than needed get it anyway, you'll have spare in case of any mistake.

I was so cheesed up, tap, tap, tapping that gasket in there...after 45 years.... that it didn't matter that my hands hurt for two days afterward....and I do this kind of stuff everyday!:D
Another labor of love.....
