Ultimately it is my fault. I misunderstood the California seller's info.
Basically I bought a 87 18 ft Guardian project boat with no title OR the Gov form 49 that proves the boat was purchased at auction etc.
Ive run the gambit thru GSA, CaDMV & WaDMV. At this point I will end up with a temporary title for 5 years (transferable). OK no prob except the friggin inspection issues. Still, I will giterdun.
As a last resort, is it possible the hull number can be tracked down to the original owner by Boston Whaler?

Did they or can they give you a bill of sale, listing the HIN?

When I bought our boat, it was from a state that doesn't require a title, and the hull didn't have a proper HIN. So I sent Chuck Bennett at Whaler the hull stencil number and he sent me a letter on Whaler letterhead with the original HIN. That fit the bill in terms of getting it registered and titled....

Chuck Bennet.
I see that name in the forums pretty often.
I was hoping for a quick link....pretty short on time to search lately. Thankyou.
Well, I guess I will dive into the Bruswick site and see what happens.

His email is cbennett@whaler.com and if you send him the stencil number and an explanation, he'll get back to you pretty quickly. Let us know what happens.

Hi Mike, Did you buy the project from a guy in the Concord
Area? He had been trying to sell it on/off for about a year
and didn't have proper title. If so, you might do as Derwd24 says and with a bill of sale, get it done. Sorry to here this happened to you. In Calif, without the owner's Cal boat/trailer registration or auction receipt, most people here won't consider the deal. Best of luck, Ed
