I have been looking for a 17 ft Montauk and stumbled upon a very clean low time 1997 17 ft Outrage II, with a Yamaha 130.

I don't know anything about this hull. The spec page on this site shows it weighing
1700 lbs. Is that a misprint or is it really that heavy?

What are the pro's and con's of this hull. HELP PLEASE

Thanks--Trey

Trey -

The 17 Outrage II is a great boat. While a similar layout to the Outrage I, it is a bit wider. longer and draws more. The big differences are the accutrack hull and larger fuel tank. The change in construction added the 500 lbs.

While a Outrage 17 I is a good step up from a classic Montauk, a Outrage 17 II is big in terms of ride, storage, fuel capacity.

I know half a dozen owners and all really like the boat.

If I was you, I would strongly consider the Outrage II over the Montauk assuming you don't mind the post classic lines/design.

I have a 1999 model with a 135 Merc. It is a heavy boat, so a proper tow vehicle is important. I tow with a F-150 and it's no problem, but I started ouyt with a Ranger and it was a handful. Overall I like the boat, but it has a tendancy to porpoise without tabs. I added Smart Tabs and this helped tremdously, but when the 56 gallon gas tank is full it still wants to bounce a bit. It's a great fishing platform, and dry ride. Also truly self-bailing. In deck fish box is great. Have heard of some problems with the internal fuel tank in salt water application (corrosion).

With a 115 or over it's got power to spare, so the 130 should be great.

Trey,

The 17 Outrage II is a much bigger and stronger riding boat with a lot more comfort and convenience features than the classic Montauk. If you are going to really use the boat for what it is meant to do, large open water fishing and other watersports, get the Outrage. If you want a boat more for the classic looks but is still a good all around boat, get the Montauk.
